CASE STUDY: MondelEz International
Mondelez International, Inc. (formerly Kraft Foods, Inc.) is one of the world’s largest snacks companies, with 2016 net revenues of approximately $26 billion. Mondelez manufactures and markets delicious food and beverage products for consumers in approximately 165 countries around the world. Mondelez holds the No. 1 position globally in biscuits (cookies and crackers). The Richmond, Virginia based bakery is one of the largest biscuit operations in the North American region.
Challenge: In 2016, Mondelez’s strategic operational plan called for bakery consolidation throughout the United States and the Richmond bakery was required to begin operating 24/7/365 (a third shift). The resulting increase in workload and workforce demanded a world class on site employee clinic to be fully staffed and ready to accept employees day and night. The Nurse Manager at the Richmond Bakery called Gateway and asked for help.
Solution: Gateway stepped in and re-engineered the operational workflow for the clinic and its staff. Through this implementation, Gateway designed an entirely new clinic staff schedule to ensure 24 hour nurse coverage. For all staff nurses employed by the clinic, Gateway sourced, screened, interviewed and facilitated nurse orientation. Gateway recommended and then created a customized on-call “pool” of nurses for any unforeseen scheduling conflicts or emergencies.
Results: Gateway continues to provide all staff nurses for the clinic. The Richmond Bakery continues to be an amazing example of operational excellence and efficiency on a huge scale. Thanks to our talented and dedicated nurses, Gateway has ensured that the bakery’s clinic has consistently been open and fully staffed to handle any medical event large or small. And in the event of an occasional late night or weekend staffing emergency, Gateway’s recruiting team has been ready and able to jump in and help the bakery’s management team without fail.
